Our Story

In 1998, Quintin Lake, a fifteen year old Rodney District teenager, was frustrated by the poor quality of Internet services in New Zealand at that time. He decided he would do something about it.

With just $10,000 of start-up capital and the help of colleague Kim Thibault Maximum Internet Limited (Maxnet) was born. The goal was to build an Internet Service Provider (ISP) focused on delivering quality service.

Despite a tough and competitive market, Maxnet started to flourish. Maxnet soon established a loyal customer base as news spread about its consistently excellent customer support. However the young entrepreneurs soon realised the business needed to grow substantially to become sustainable and profitable.

2000 - 2004

Between 2000 and 2003 Maxnet built a strong management team and hired additional staff to help drive growth. With additional external funding the company grew exponentially acquiring five ISPs and an advanced Internet Data Centre (IDC). Maxnet featured twice in the Deloittes Fast50 Index growth awards - 4th fastest growing company in NZ for 2003 and 16th fastest in 2004.

2004 was a period of consolidation for Maxnet involving enhancements to existing systems and a focus on advanced internet business services. Major capital investment in core network infrastructure provided a stable and reliable foundation underpinning the delivery of new services.

Future Prospects

In recent years the company has won considerable industry recognition for its achievements. One of the keys to Maxnet's success has been its commitment to the company's founding principle: always seeking to provide the highest quality customer service.

Today Maxnet is well positioned as a niche provider of advanced hosting and connectivity solutions. It has the required foundations in place to roll-out the next generation of Information & Communications Technologies (ICT).
