New Christchurch Data Centre - Dec09

Maxnet's new data centre in Christchurch was commissioned in December providing Maxnet with a primary and secondary data centre capability. Maxnet's primary data centre is in Albany Auckland.

The new data centre will enable Maxnet to deliver a range of cost-effective disaster recovery solutions to customers as well as colocation space for customers wanting South Island rack space.

Load Balancing Technology

Recently deployed server load balancing technology and data centre load balancing capability enables Maxnet to now provide customers with very sophisticated traffic management solutions. Whether it be a disaster recovery solution, or a "Cloud Computing" model, we can architect solutions that raise service levels to a new dimension. Check out our load balancing web site pages for more information.

New Multistack Chillers Installed

Multistack Chiller UnitThe water chiller capacity at Maxnet's Internet Data Centre is being more than doubled.

Three new Multistack chiller units were lifted into place in March, to augment the existing two units.  A 50 tonne crane was brought on site to undertake the lifting work.

The Multistack chillers are designed to be mounted in "strings" which are groups of chillers mounted together on a common set of rails. Maxnet now has two sets of strings of chillers plus 200KW DX process cooler capacity, thus further increasing cooling redundancy at its data centre.

Building work is completed on a water cooling tower which contains 10,000 litres of chilled water to cool equipment hosted in the data centre's rack space.

"B" Power Upgrade Completed - Feb 09

Maxnet's Internet Data Centre (IDC) mains power supply upgrade was completed on schedule in Feb. The facility now has a 2 MVA mains supply - 1MVA on its "A" power supply into the building, and 1MVA on its "B" power supply.  Maxnet is targeting customers requiring hosting of equipment with high power and cooling requirements (i.e. blade servers) that other data centres are not able to accommodate due to power limitations.

Each of Maxnet's 2 mains power supplies has its own 1MVA transformer, set of power boards, cabling, 500kVA UPS, and back-up diesel generator thus providing Maxnet High Availability customers with a true 2N power supply system. It is one of the most advanced and reliable IDC power systems available in NZ. The power infrastructure is scalable, designed with future growth in mind.

Maxnet Rated Among Top Three ISPs in Customer Satisfaction Survey

Consumer.org.nz recently conducted a survey of  customers to rank NZ ISPs in terms of customer satisfaction levels. Maxnet ranked among the top three with a customer satisfaction rating of 93%!  We believe this is the fruit of our work  this year to reduce support call waiting times and to resolve issues first time around. On average we are now answering more than 70% of calls with 60 seconds, and  even offer a money back guarantee if we fail to meet our "Business Plus Broadband" response targets.

Infrastructure Upgrades - Jan 2009Switchboard

Growth in our colocation business and a new 30kW per cabinet capability has necessitated a substantial power upgrade.

Maxnet's "B" mains power supply feed into the IDC is being completely replaced with a 1MVA feed, now scheduled for completion at the end of Jan 2009. This means we will have 2 x 1MVA mains power supplies into the IDC (i.e. an upgraded "2N" power supply).

The upgrade involves installation of a number of new switchboards, including a mains switchboard that is more than 6m long.

Maxnet Customers Top in  2008 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific Awards

The top two ranking NZ companies in the Deloitte Asia Pacific awards are Maxnet customers' Torpedo7 and Digital Island. We congratulate them on their success and will be doing everything we can to assist them in their future growth plans.

New 1MVA Generator

A new 1MVA backup generator - affectionately known as "Grover" - is now on site increasing the total number of available generators to three. Maxnet now has a total backup diesel generation capacity of 2MVA. To put this into perspective, that is sufficient generation capacity to power Te Anau township. At full throttle, the three generators go through 400 litres of diesel an hour. Fortunately they spend most of their lives in stand-by mode waiting for a potential mains power cut, only being powered up for maintenance and regular testing by our specialist maintenance contractors.

Three additional water chiller modules are also being installed increasing the number of on-site chiller stacks (i.e. sets of chiller modules) to 3. This not only increases overall IDC power and cooling capacity but also redundancy.

Improved Colocation CapabilityHot Aisle Containment Pod

Recently Maxnet rolled out its new Hot Aisle Containment Colocation Suite - this enables us to provide up to 10 times the rack power and cooling capability of your traditional NZ data centre - far higher than anything any other commercial data centre in NZ can provide. This is good news for anyone with a high density hosting requirement - we can handle virtually any power and cooling requirement you wish to challenge us with!
