Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the lifeblood of the Internet - it determines the size and quality of an ISP's data centre link to the rest of the world.
Maxnet provides reliability and diversity to its network by means of multihomed bandwidth via three international upstream providers. It's delivered via 3 x 1gig fibre optic connections into Maxnet's Internet Data Centre.
Multihoming: Bandwidth Redundancy
Multihoming is a technique to increase the reliability of a networks Internet connection. Maxnet bandwidth is load-balanaced across multiple diverse upstream suppliers to provide the highest level of international bandwidth redundancy available in NZ.
Multihoming is extremely important because from time-to-time an upstream provider will have either a total outage or an issue that will affect its ability to supply adequate bandwidth to its downstream ISP customers. Our redundancy means that if one of our suppliers has an outage, we have another supplier able to provide continuity of bandwidth supply.
The diversity of our bandwidth supply provides Maxnet and its customers with direct paths into several locations worldwide which means fast, low latency (i.e. reduced lag) connections to Australia, Asia and the USA.
Domestic Bandwidth
Maxnet is also multihomed domestically with direct connectivity into Telecom NZ and TelstraClear's network as well as peering arrangements with all other major networks at the Auckland and Wellington peering exchanges. (i.e. APE & WIX)
