DNS Setup for XP
How to update your DNS settings

When you have turned on your Windows XP machine and it has loaded up. Please left click on the “start” buttongreen button with start on it) down the bottom left hand corner. When you left click on the “start” circle it will bring up the “start menu” as shown below. In the “start menu”, left lick on the “ Control Panel” option on the right hand side.

Once you have clicked on the “Control Panel” option you will be presented with the screen below. Make sure that it says “Switch to Category View” in the top left hand corner of this screen as it means that we are in “Classic View” which is where we want to be. Now you need to left click on the “Network Connections” option.

Once you have clicked on the “Network Connections” option you will be presented with this window below. In this window, double click on the “Local Area Connection” or right click this and click “Open” in the menu.

Once you have double clicked on the “Local Area Connection” option you will be presented with the following window. In this window, left click on the “Properties” button.

Once you have clicked on the “Properties” button you will be presented by the following window. Left click on the “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” option then left click the “Properties” button.

Once you have clicked the “Properties” button, you will be presented with this window below. In this window we need to make sure that your settings are set to “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. If the dot is next to “Use the following DNS server addresses” then change this to “Obtain DNS server address automatically”. Once you have done this, left click on “OK” to close this window and then continue to close the other windows as well.
